How to Quiet Monkey Mind
How many times have you found yourself stuck in your head? For me, it creates inner chaos. I overanalyze, try to justify, and ultimately I feel like I spiral out of control. This is what I call monkey mind. Today I’m sharing with you how to quiet your monkey mind.
In your head, you’re dead
As Tony Robbins says, in your head, you’re dead. I love Robin Sharma’s quote “Life has taught me this: fear screams in the head, while wisdom whispers in the heart.” When stuck in your head, you’re simply stuck in ego. The ego’s job is to protect you – keep you safe.
The problem is, you can’t solve problems with the same thinking that created them. That means, you have to quiet the monkey mind. The internal chatter or chaos has to be calmed. In order to provide relief, you have to quiet the mind. For me, running is my immediate outlet. Or dancing. Or, journaling. When I can put my thoughts on paper, it allows me to clear the chaos.
Tune in to your guidance system
We all have an internal guidance system. It’s your choice whether or not you connect with it. Your intuition is there to guide you – if you’ll listen. It provides clarity, can help you move forward and let you know when you’re on the right path.
Meditation is also another powerful tool to quiet the monkey mind and connect with your heart. Additionally, any form of grounding such as walking in nature or putting your toes in the sand. Everything is vibrating energy. If the ocean is calming to you, connect with it. If it’s nature or the mountains, connect with it.
