Social media. Friend or foe? This week I’m sharing with you how happiness is an inside job. I know what it’s like to get caught up in seeking external validation. Thinking that your happiness will come from things, experiences or other people.
The truth of the matter, happiness is an inside job. If you’re expecting material objects, prestige or relationships to bring you happiness, you’ll always be seeking.
The American Meme.
A few weeks ago when Facebook and Instagram crashed, it had me thinking – if social media goes away, then what? I think there are positive aspects to social media – I’ve even experienced them. I’ve had people on my podcast I wouldn’t have otherwise connected with.
On the flip side, there are plenty of cons. I watched The American Meme on Netflix which is a documentary filming four top social media “influencers” about how they built their empire. There’s no denying they’ve accumulated the fame, fortune and millions of followers. But happiness, none of them seemed to have any.
Happiness is an inside job.
Paris Hilton along with the others shared how lonely it really is. Most importantly, how unfulfilling and empty it is. I think this documentary is gold if you take away that external validation, money and fame do not = happiness.
Instead, stop and reflect. What makes you happy? Like really, what brings you joy and laughter and fills up your cup? Do more of that.
The less fucks you give, the happier you’ll be!
