I learned a valuable lesson while playing flag football this season. I have been playing coed flag football for years, but this game in particular taught me something huge.
We were playing in the first round of playoffs and had 1:20 left in the game and down by two scores, 29-12. I was ready to throw in the towel. Being on the brink of defeat is not something I’m a fan of. However, I know better. I especially know in football, it’s not over until the clock reads 0:00. In the last 1:20 of that game, we scored a touchdown and then got a pick six with a chance to win the game. With only :13 left in the game and down by three, a win was in reach. It came down to the last play which was caught and ran down to just outside the endzone – and then, the clock ran out. Literally. We were only steps away from a win and I thought we had no chance.
This goes for any scenario in life. Where have you given up or are ready to give up because you feel like defeat is all there is? Those who have a winning mindset don’t quit until the clock runs out. Perseverance is key.
