When is the last time you did something for yourself? For some, this seems impossible or even selfish, but I completely disagree. It’s not only important and necessary, it’s vital. I’ve heard it for years and especially from family and friends who are always doing for others. There’s just not enough time in the day to do anything for themselves. It’s these same people that end up with inner burn out, underlying resentment and not realizing they have their own needs to fulfill.
You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to other people.
I understand the importance of carving out time for me and I make sure I make it happen. If I don’t, I feel exhausted, frustrated and depleted. My go to outlets for creating me time are the gym, running, snowboarding, traveling, yoga, meditation, reading a book, enjoying a cup of green tea or taking a 20 minute nap. Me time doesn’t take a lot of effort and it doesn’t have to take a lot of time.
How many times have you heard on a plane when the safety instructions come on: in the event of a change in cabin air, an oxygen mask will drop; be sure to place yours around your face first before helping the person or child next to you.
It all begins with you; if you don’t care for yourself, you will not be able to take care of anyone or anything else.
This should be your life motto! If you’re not giving yourself oxygen, there’s no way you can serve others. I encourage you, if you aren’t already, to start setting aside time and replenish yourself. You can thank me later 🙂
